DevOps Africa is seeking a skilled and motivated Platform Engineer to join our team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for designing, maintaining, and supporting services that empower our product teams to innovate and deliver robust solutions.
You’ll work with engineering and product teams to ensure that our platform is optimized for performance, scalability, and reliability. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for clean code, API development, and a commitment to best practices who is eager to contribute to a dynamic and collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Platform Development: Collaborate with product and engineering teams to develop, maintain, and enhance the platform, ensuring high performance, reliability, and scalability.
- Code Excellence: Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code in JavaScript/TypeScript or Go, adhering to best practices and coding standards.
- API Development: Develop and document first-class APIs, setting standards for best practices across teams.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on emerging technologies, recommending improvements that enhance platform capabilities and the developer experience.
- Documentation: Author detailed documentation to support platform services and assist developers in effective implementation.
- Problem-Solving: Provide technical support, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions in alignment with agile principles.
- Team Collaboration: Participate in Scrum processes, facilitate knowledge-sharing, and mentor team members to foster skill growth.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience
- Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript or Go, with experience in RESTful API development
- Strong experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Knowledge of queuing and caching technologies (e.g., RabbitMQ, Elasticsearch, Redis)
- Solid understanding of SQL and database design, particularly with MySQL/MariaDB
- Familiarity with microservices architecture and scalable application design
- Effective communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to quality code
Compensation:
Negotiable and varies based on experience, with additional incentives.
