The Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NRA) is an independent regulatory body established by the NRA Act, 2015 (Act 895) and began operations in January 2016. The NRA has a statutory responsibility for regulating civilian use of nuclear and other radioactive materials and is preparing itself to regulate Ghana’s nuclear power programme.
Job Description
The NRA is seeking to recruit to fill various positions in its organisational structure. The NRA hereby invites qualified Ghanaians to apply for any of the positions listed below.
A Nuclear Engineer for a nuclear regulatory body reviews the safe, efficient, and reliable design, analysis and operation of nuclear plant systems, equipment, and processes of nuclear systems of nuclear power plants, research reactors, and other nuclear facilities. This includes review of thermal-hydraulic systems, neutronics, etc.
Key required tasks are:
- Review the design of nuclear systems, components and equipment (reactor core, reactor coolant, etc.), including nuclear-related calculations and specifications to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and international standards (e.g., ASME codes). This includes a review of heat transfer systems, transient and steady-state analysis, accident analysis, radiation shielding, etc.
- Oversee the safe operation of nuclear systems and equipment through analysis, inspections and risk assessments.

Required Skills or Experience
Minimum Education
- Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering or related field. Bachelors degree with significant experience in nuclear engineering systems could be considered.
Certifications & Knowledge
- Good understanding of nuclear principles, thermodynamics, reactor operations, fluid dynamics, neutronics, etc. Experience in software such as ANSYS FLUENT, RELAP5, MCNP, TRACE will be an advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 2 - 5-years of experience in nuclear engineering systems
