The Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NRA) is an independent regulatory body established by the NRA Act, 2015 (Act 895) and began operations in January 2016. The NRA has a statutory responsibility for regulating civilian use of nuclear and other radioactive materials and is preparing itself to regulate Ghana’s nuclear power programme.
Job Description
The NRA is seeking to recruit to fill various positions in its organisational structure. The NRA hereby invites qualified Ghanaians to apply for any of the positions listed below.
A Geotechnical Engineer for the nuclear regulatory body plays a critical role in reviewing and ensuring the safety and structural integrity of nuclear facilities, focusing on the interaction between the facility and the surrounding soil, rock, and groundwater.
The job description includes:
- Review of site characterization studies including site investigations to determine soil and rock conditions and stratigraphy, and groundwater conditions and including both geological, geophysical and geotechnical methods of site investigation.
- Geotechnical analysis and foundation design including performing geotechnical analysis for foundation design, settlement analysis, slope stability, bearing capacity assessment, soil-structure interaction.
- Seismic hazard assessment including engineering seismology, ground motion determination, evaluation of liquefaction potential and mitigation, fault and volcanic hazard assessment, etc.
- Groundwater monitoring and hydrogeological assessments including seepage analysis, contaminant transport, analysis, etc to meet regulatory requirements from Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), ASCE and IAEA

Required Skills or Experience
Minimum Education
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or related field. Bachelors degree in any of the above with significant experience in geotechnical earthquake engineering could may be considered.
Certifications & Knowledge
- Good understanding and good proficiency in finite element/ finite difference analysis and design software such as PLAXIS, FLAC, GEOSTUDIO, etc. helpful.
Experience
- Minimum 2 - 5-years of experience in geotechnical engineering. Some knowledge in earthquake engineering and nuclear knowledge would be an advantage.
