The Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NRA) is an independent regulatory body established by the NRA Act, 2015 (Act 895) and began operations in January 2016. The NRA has a statutory responsibility for regulating civilian use of nuclear and other radioactive materials and is preparing itself to regulate Ghana’s nuclear power programme.
Job Description
The NRA is seeking to recruit to fill various positions in its organisational structure. The NRA hereby invites qualified Ghanaians to apply for any of the positions listed below.
A Structural Engineer for the nuclear regulatory body is responsible for reviewing analysis and design of structural systems and components in nuclear power plants, research reactors, and other nuclear facilities.
The job description includes:
- Review of designs and analyses of nuclear structures, systems, and components (SSCs) to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and plant specifications such as ASCE, ASME, Eurocodes, and other applicable standards.
- Ensure the structural integrity of nuclear facilities, including reactors, containment buildings, and other safety-related structures. This includes seismic analysis, analysis of static, dynamic and blast loads including aircraft crash.
- Material selection, inspection and testing: This includes the selection of suitable materials for construction and repair of nuclear structures, considering factors like radiation resistance and corrosion and construction support including the provision of support during construction, commissioning, and maintenance activities.

Required skills or Experience
Minimum Education
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field. A bachelor's degree in any of the above with significant experience in seismic structural engineering may be considered.
Certifications & Knowledge
- Good understanding and proficiency in finite element analysis and design software such as ANSYS, SAP2000, ABAQUS, etc needed.
Experience
- Minimum 2 - 5 years of experience in structural engineering. Some knowledge in earthquake engineering helpful, and nuclear knowledge would be an advantage.
