Asanko Gold Ghana Limited Ghana Ltd. (“AGGL”) is a joint venture between Galiano Gold and Gold Fields. The primary asset is the multi-pit Asanko Gold Mine complex, located in the Ashanti region of Ghana.  Galiano Gold are the managers and operators of the Asanko Gold Mine. 

Job Description

A vacancy exists at the Engineering Department for the position of: MOBILE EQUIPMENT SUPERVISOR

JOB PURPOSE

The Mobile Equipment Supervisor will lead a team of mobile equipment technicians to ensure effective and efficient maintenance of all heavy mobile equipment and related activities to always meet the equipment availability requirements of the mine.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement a sustainable maintenance system to ensure early identification and repair of all faults on heavy mobile equipment;
  • Carry out planned inspection services on pumps and overhaul hydraulic cylinders as well as all mining mobile equipment;
  • Diagnose the causes of defects on mobile equipment and determine specific actions plan to correct it;
  • Undertake inspections on contractor equipment and ensure SOPs are in place to guide the undertaking of specific tasks;
  • Oversee the overhauling and rebuilding of trucks, tractors, pumps, cranes, and other standard or specialized gasoline, diesel, and manually operated firefighting machinery and equipment;
  • Plan and coordinate activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and directing the work of operators;
  • Assist the stores to determine the right spares to purchase and/or requisitions of motor vehicles and equipment as well as tools, parts, materials, and supplies used in heavy equipment repairs and maintenance;
  • Liaise with dealers on heavy equipment to address warranty issues;
  • Monitor the performance of team members and provide effective leadership giving and receiving feedback about the work and related matters;
  • Ensure that employees in the crew are highly motivated, well trained and remain competent to do their work;
  • Prepare and present weekly maintenance and expenditure reports, highlighting variances prior to operational the review meetings;
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor.

Required Skills or Experience

Knowledge

  • Must have a minimum of HND/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized tertiary institution;
  • Must have a minimum of four (4) years of hands-on experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment, and permitting requirements per Mining regulatory standards;
  • Possession of an Inspecting Engineer Certificate issued by the Mines Inspectorate of the Minerals Commission of Ghana will be an added advantage;
  • Must be computer literate with working knowledge in Microsoft word, excel, power-point and database management;
  • Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving license and the ability to drive in rough terrain.

Skills

  • Excellent working knowledge of equipment troubleshooting software and/or other Microsoft applications relevant in the mining or related industry;
  • Must demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose underlying faults of electrical and hydraulic equipment;
  • Ability to apply knowledge of standards, methods and procedures to work situations;
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced work environment;
  • Must demonstrate well-developed oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to interact with people at different levels of leadership and of diverse cultural backgrounds;
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Must be declared medically fit for the position and working environment.
