Environmental Superintendent - Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited

Cardinal Namdini Mining Limited (CNML) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Shandong Gold Mining Co. Ltd., which is duly listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) and Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKSE). CNML is developing its’ primary asset located in the Upper East Region of Ghana with a strategic vision to build a world-leading, highly valuable and responsible world-class gold mining enterprise.

Job Description

Job Purpose

To provide proactive leadership, guidance, and service relating to the environmental management system and practices at CNML sites to ensure the achievement of targets and fulfill company and regulatory/statutory requirements as well as best practices. 

Primary Accountabilities (Duties & Responsibilities)

• Implement all site environmental programs, initiatives, and schedules in accordance with environmental assessment commitments and permitting requirements
• Ensure infield implementation of the details of the Environmental Management System for the Project through the finalization of Environmental Management and Monitoring Plans applicable to the Project. This includes implementing appropriate field quality assurance/quality control programs and ensuring that these programs are carried out following best practices
• Ensure project compliance with all environmental permits, licenses, government/agency regulations, and other related commitments subscribed by CNML and collaborate with site management and staff to maintain environmental compliance while optimizing construction and operational efficiencies.
• Develop concurrent reclamation protocols and ensure reclamation works are followed through expeditiously
• Direct and conduct environmental incident reporting, investigations, and development of effective and practical corrective and preventive actions.
• Participate in consultation with communities with respect to environmental and regulatory issues (technical and non-technical meetings)
• Oversee data management system including environmental data collection, data management, analysis and interpretation, report preparation, and other related tasks. This includes preparing environmental presentations, reports and other related documents for both internal and external stakeholders.
• Implement all environmental reporting requirements for the Project, both short term and long term
• Supervise, coach and mentor subordinates effectively. This includes discipline, performance management, training and development in collaboration with the Training & Development Unit of the HR department. 
• Perform any other related duties based on the exigencies of the project/ Company as assigned by the Supervisor.

Required Skills or Experience

Minimum qualification (s)

• A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental management, natural resources, engineering, biological or natural sciences or related field.
• HSE Superintendent Certificate of Competence from Minerals Commission.
• Relevant Professional certification in environmental management and/or audit  

Experience (Minimum)

• 10 years of environmental management experience in the extractive, mining, manufacturing, or construction industry
• 5 years experience at a superintendent or senior supervisory level

Knowledge (In-depth)

• Thorough understanding of Environmental Management Systems, Strong knowledge of ISO 14001:2015. Experience in ISO 45001:2018 is an added advantage.
• Experience in AKOBEN, i.e., EPA special audit program used to assess the environmental performance of mining and manufacturing companies in Ghana through a rating and disclosure system.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the mining industry, with a strong understanding of pertinent environmental legislation, regulations, approvals, permits, licenses, and best practices in the Ghanaian Mining Industry.
