ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Fiber Engineer is expected to:

  • Rectification/Restoration of signal loss, degradation and failures on Fiber optic network
  • Maintenance of MTN, VODAFONE and Airtel fibre network
  • Maintenance of OSP (FTTH, FTTx & FTTP), DWDM, OSN-OLT and GPON Technologies
  • Follows absolute EHS protocols
  • Provide project support on implementation to project execution.
  • Supervise civil works (OSPs), (Excavation of trenches, Construction of Manhole and joint box) preparatory to cable installation.
  • Performing fibre optics diagnosis tests and Troubleshooting fibre optic cable interconnecting DWDM and OLT equipment and switches.
  • Prepare a report to the Regional Team Lead
  • Supervises Teams (Engineer and Labourers) work

  • Splicing Machine
  • GPS Mapping
  • Fibre cleavers
  • Optical Light Source
  • Optical Power Metre
  • OTDR
  • VFL
  • Phone (equipped with GPS and OWS Software)

MATERIALS HANDLED

  • Handles End -to-End loss and Back-reflection testing on FTTx and FTTH (LSPM)
  • Handles the operation of OTDR (EXFO, SHINEWAY, CORNING, JDSU and YOKOGAWA) and readings, analysing and interpretation.
  • Handles the interpretation of Fiber Route As-built
  • Handles GPS Mapping and OWS software

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Field Work

Required Skills or Experience

  • Experience working experience in the Telecommunication Industry
  • Must have Fiber Optics Experience

OTHER COMPETENCIES

  • Have good communication skills and a good supervisory skill
  • Familiar with and able to use the required test equipment
  • High sense of responsibility even to small details
  • Having total awareness of Health & Safety
  • Willingness to share knowledge & experience
  • Ability to work under pressure within the restraint time frame
  • Ability to work in a team
