AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.
We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated person to join our dedicated team as Mechanical Supervisor.
ROLE PURPOSE AND CONTEXT
The Mechanical Supervisor is accountable for planning, monitoring, and controlling the work output to the standard of all mechanical aspects, refurbishment in the first instance, through policies, standards, processes and procedures.

The role is also accountable for ensuring the mechanical refurbishment, later maintenance team delivers safe, productive, and efficient operational output. The role holder will be accountable for coordinating and providing control of the refurbishment/ maintenance of mechanical aspects of the Mine Infrastructure on-site, ensuring that the team maintains equipment according to the original equipment manufacturer standards so that it can be handed over in a timely manner, ‘fit for purpose’ to the mining operations team for safe and efficient use.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Work according to total quality management principles & ensure zero defect objectives & safety
- Adhere to site’s Environmental Management Plan
- Accountable for team’s environmental obligations and performances.
- Conduct formal meetings with team and report any weaknesses in the environmental procedures.
- Enforce all environmental work procedures that have been issued by the Departmental Manager.
- Investigate all environmental incidents in assigned work areas and prepare reports with recommendations for the Departmental Manager for onward submission to the Environmental Manager or his representative
- Gather information for the Mechanical Engineer
- Conduct periodic audits of all mechanical infrastructure during refurbishment, later maintenance
- Conduct reviews of the refurbishment, later maintenance, of the Mine Infrastructure to identify actions for continuous improvement
- Assist the Mechanical Engineer to develop condition monitoring routes and checks for infrastructure equipment.
- Execute refurbishment, later maintenance, work checks on a routine scheduled basis. This includes visual checks, vibration data collection, infrared data collection, ultrasonic data collection, motor current and flux data collection, simple NDT data collection.
- Analyse and trend predictive maintenance data (vibration, IR, etc.) to determine plant condition and report this condition for action.
- Monitor general physical condition of plant assets and report

- Monitor preventive and corrective actions as necessary.
- Conduct periodic audits of all mechanical infrastructure during refurbishment, later maintenance

Conduct reviews of the refurbishment, later maintenance, of the Mine Infrastructure to identify actions for continuous improvement
- Ensure routine condition monitoring tasks are performed on all the rotating equipment by data collection using advanced portable data collectors and other tools according to the established schedules and also as per the plant requirements.
- Manage work teams to execute project work in line with schedule and cost
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
Qualification
-
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Experience
- An experienced mechanical maintenance Supervisor with 5+ years’ experience in, preferably, Mine Infrastructure maintenance
- Underground work experience in shafts, conveyor belts, winders, pumps, crushers
- Experience in management of Maintenance and Repair Contracts (MARC)
- Experience in Project Management

Technical Competencies
- Strong mechanical maintenance competencies in mining and/or extractive metallurgy environment
- Sound project management skills
- Should have analytical skills to be able to evaluate information and solve complex problems.
- Detail oriented to understand complex systems, and recognition that a minor error can cause major problems.
- Commercially astute and able to work effectively with third parties.
- Legally astute with respect to project delivery and maintenance systems
- Excellent skills in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Project and Excel
- Must be able to communicate about technical issues both orally and in writing
- Knowledge in AGA standards
