Pencils of Promise is a non-profit organization that builds schools and increases educational opportunities in the developing world. Pencils of Promise was founded by Adam Braun. Since its founding in October 2008, the 501 organization has built 554 schools across Laos, Guatemala and Ghana.
Job Description
Summary of position
Pencils of Promise (PoP) seeks to hire a person who will be responsible for handling communication and media duties of the PoP Ghana office, including photography, videography, content gathering and communication for the purpose of keeping stakeholders informed about the impact PoP creates; and to make the organisation visible, to promote fundraising goals.
This role will collaborate with other designated staff to manage the social media platforms of the Ghana office.

Roles & Responsibilities
Communications
- With the support of Management, collate content and design PoP Ghana annual reports
- Design soft and hard copy graphic materials and tools for PoP projects and programs
- Support with the production of key communications resources for donor and public engagements
- Provide communications support in emergency and reputational risk issues that may arise
- In collaboration with Management, provide regular impact communication and relay PoP’s messages to key stakeholders
- Participate in global communications strategic initiatives and where appropriate, implement them at the local level
- Work closely with all PoP Ghana staff to develop an annual communications plan that supports opportunities (stories, campaigns) and develop high quality content and make sure all contents are stored in Box
- Develop an Emergency Communications plan, protocols and templates
- Collaborate with other NGOs in the education sector to jointly develop and deliver policy statements and advocacy positions and messaging on pertinent themes or issues
- Support all teams to implement guidelines for producing communication content and ensure adherence to communication policies, protocols, standards and brand compliance
Multimedia and Content Development
- Work to promote the brand, Pencils of Promise
- Take photos and videos during PoP events; edit and keep inventory of them in Box

- Write, edit and design key PowerPoint presentations, speeches, press releases, welcome packs, newsletters and other multimedia content for communication purposes
- Develop and design country profiles and fact sheets
- Provide support to host PoP Ghana media visits
Media Management
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with media houses and groups at the local and national levels
- Ensure PoP Ghana impact and success stories are regularly featured on our local and global communications platforms (Transparency Talk) and external channels mainly our website and social media handles
- Regularly update global content inventory with workshops, school events, etc. in order to best showcase PoP Ghana's work on our global social media platforms
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of media trends in Ghana, and provide regular reports and recommendations
- Keep inventory of links to PoP media publications
Duty Station: Ho, Volta Region
Required Skills or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Media Communications, Public Relations, Arts or related field
- Must have completed National Service
- Extensive experience working in a communications and media role, including the production of a variety of content and materials for different media
- Knowledge of International development and fundraising
- Excellent interview and data collection skills
- Experience working with rural communities
- Ability to communicate complicated and technical issues in a concise and clear way to different audiences. Be creative and innovative in communicating to new audiences
- Excellent skills in photography and videography
- Must have a considerable understanding or experience working with NGOs and the use of Communications for campaigning and influencing
- Must be conversant with latest photo and video editing applications
- Strong IT skills

- Ability to travel at short notice where necessary for information gathering
- Ability to take initiatives, work independently, flexible and adaptable
Languages:
- Strong skills in written and spoken English
- The ability to speak Ewe, Twi and Dangbe is an added advantage
