The Community Relations Coordinator maintains relationships with local government, traditional authorities, community leaders, PTAs, and parents to provide opportunities for young women in ‘training to employment,’ industrial attachment, and entrepreneurship programmes.

The Community Relations Coordinator is expected to manage all the project initiatives related specifically to the young women beneficiaries and facilitate their successful outcomes through fostering excellent community relations.  

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Field Manager, and working in close collaboration with the programme team, the Community Relations Coordinator is responsible for the following.

  • Mount community outreach events promoting girls’ involvement in trades occupations, e.g., durbars, community conversations
  • Organize “empowerment camps” with youth service providers for young women beneficiaries
  • Facilitate selection, enrolment, and registration of young women in ‘training to employment,’ foundational skills, and entrepreneurship programmes

  • Manage Access Fund by assessing the needs of young women and awarding bursaries
  • Procure tool kits and appropriate protective gear for young women beneficiaries
  • Facilitate attachments for young women in industries and follow up on their performance
  • Identify mentors for entrepreneurship training follow-up and manage mentorship programme
  • Alert project management to any challenges young women might be experiencing in the programme and provide coaching support through appropriate channels, i.e., quality of gender-responsive pedagogy, gender-sensitive workplace policies
  • Work collaboratively with consultants and service providers as required
  • Represent WEE-North at donor, partner, and government meetings
  • Support learning initiatives and data interpretation processes for the utilization of findings in annual reports, communications, and project design, i.e., tracer studies, case studies
  • Support annual work planning and reporting
  • Monitor WEE-North’s child protection policy intermittently
  • Other duties assigned by Field Manager. 

Required Skills or Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience with international development projects, specifically girls’ education, gender and empowerment projects preferred
  • University degree in Education or Social Sciences or equivalent combination of relevant educational qualifications (tertiary level) and professional experience, i.e., community development, livelihoods, social work, all with a gender lens
  • Ability to speak fluently in one or more languages commonly spoken in northern Ghana
  • Youth-centered orientation, with excellent interpersonal skills appropriate for context and assignment
  • Strong and demonstrated commitment to Gender Equality and a champion for girls and young women
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a fast-moving team, willing to contribute at different levels required to achieve success
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication
  • Strong strategic analysis, organizational skills, detail orientation, and timeliness of performance
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, and Internet search capacity
