purpose
To generate income for the bank by providing a platform for clients to execute their required trades in the market efficiently. To monitor the Spot, Forward & Trade exposure with local and international banks, trading in foreign exchange and domestic Money Markets (interbank, customers and branches) and assisting the Chief Dealer in achieving/performing his/her duties.
responsibilities
- Consider fixed income/commodity/currency pricing requests from clients and construct a price which is suitable to buy and sell while strictly adhering to limits and monitoring market exposures on a daily basis.
- Approve daily profit and loss from accounts department; resolve any outstanding issues speedily.
- Manage customer portfolios by maintaining and growing turnover.

- Maintain the highest degree of professionalism and dealing ethics at all times.
- Build an in-depth knowledge of the client by staying abreast of changes within the customers business with a view of creating new business opportunities. Manage good relationship with other price makers in the market.
- Manage client maturity profile on bond futures by assisting with funding positions to the latest most liquid expiry month. Forecast and monitor liquidity profile.
- Manage cash and unencumbered asset positions and optimize liquid asset portfolio.
- Manage funding requirements in line with limits provided by risk department and group treasury.
- Keep abreast of market developments and proactively keep clients up to date with current market conditions.
- Understand and manage credit exposure to clients, together with how this equates to pricing.
- Manage the threat from competitors and outsourcing companies to retain customers and turnover/profitability.
- Manage and price money market deals for various clients.
- Have a good working knowledge of all vanilla derivative products.
- Continuously assess own performance; keep abreast of learning opportunities and changing trends in your business environment, seek timely and clear feedback and request training where appropriate.
experience and qualifications
- Minimum BCom or equivalent graduate degree as well as RPE and JSE qualification; Financial and/or Mathematical Degree advantageous.
- ACI accredited.
- Minimum 3-4 years working experience; Minimum 1-2 years trading-related experience.
