Medical Officers

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Medical Director is the head of the University Clinic and will be responsible to the Vice Chancellor for the following duties;
  • supervises the functions and activities of the University Clinic
  • ensures that necessary drugs and other medical supplies are available at all times
  • ensure that the clinic is clean and hygienic
  • organize health education for students and staff
  • responsible for managing the assets e.g. computers, files, furniture, cabinets, etc. under the control of the clinic
  • responsible for the preparation and control of the clinic’s budget, and
  • any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Vice Chancellor
  • provides primary health care to staff, students and members of the University community
  • serves as the clinical liaison between the health Services staff and the University community, ensuring the communication of up-to-date medical information to appropriate parties
  • organizes preventive services, including medical examinations and vaccine requirement for students and staff

  • work with management to initiate and review programmers and practices that are developmentally appropriate and that promote overall health wellness of the University community
  • maintains professional relationships with local health care organizations and professionals to ensure access to necessary referral and consultative services
  • reviews productivity and quality reports and meeting with health care team to review individual and group productivity as well as devise and implement corrective action strategies when necessary
  • ensures that departments within the University Clinic meet operational goals including quality, productivity and user benchmarks
 

Qualification: 

  • MB.ChB Medicine or its equivalent. Master’s degree in Health Administration (MHA) or Business Administration (MBA) would be an advantage

 

General Nurses

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Suitably qualified professional nurse who acts as a clinical resource and leader, performing functions at an advanced level of competence and consistence.
  • Responsible for the delivery and co-ordination of competent nursing care during the shift for which the registered nurse is responsible.
  • Support and supervise less experienced staff, act as a preceptor for new staff, and assist in the clinical teaching of learners.
  • Contribute to the ongoing research, development and review of best practice in the specialty.
  • Provide leadership in the clinical situation, and act as an influential role model for best competent professional practice.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree/Diploma in General Nursing
  • Current Registration with Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana
  • At least 1 years’ experience in a private hospital setting
  • Advanced, broad, sound and contemporary and knowledge and skills in a particular clinical specialty, together with an advanced understanding of professional nursing, health care delivery and care planning
  • Required to be able to apply critical nursing skills and judgement across a range of variable situations and able to anticipate problems and/or complications
  • Must demonstrate an advanced understanding of best practice processes and policies in the speciality
  • Must demonstrate an ability to contribute to and utilise research
  • Must demonstrate willingness to teach and actively participate in teaching and sharing knowledge and skills with colleagues
  • Knows medical terminology necessary to perform duties effectively

 

Qualification: 

Professionally qualified with a considerable period of experience

 

Nurses Manager

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Deputising the nursing function for the Hospital
  • Consistent management of the nursing units according to the mission and vision of the hospital.
  • Management of nursing staff: staffing needs, allocation of staff, setting up of performance appraisals, grievances and labour relations issues, compiling and control of duty roster, leave schedules and attendance register
  • Immediate supervision and mentoring of the Nursing Ward Managers in charge of the Nursing Departments
  • Skills development report
  • Workplace discipline report
  • Ongoing monitoring and assessment of the delivery of nursing care in the Hospital
  • Daily rounds in all Nursing Units – making recommendations to unit managers or team leader in charge.
  • Ensures that the health status of each patient and family is assessed as outlined in the standards of nursing practices.
  • Assess knowledge, skills and attitudes of personnel and identify learning needs for in-service education.
  • Stock control – Ensure that monthly stock and equipment checks are done and report findings in writing to Nursing Manager. Control, monitor and analyse cost containment in and by the Units
  • Regular monitoring and reporting on patient care (adverse patient events, refusal of Hospital treatment, potential litigation cases or instances of nursing negligence).
  • Supervision of the development and revision of all departmental policies, procedures, in-services education programs, patient care programs and nursing standards with the approval of the Nursing Manager.
  • Assist with budget reports,
  • Assesses the equipment, linen and stock needs required to provide a safe therapeutic environment.
  • Update and review patient care standards, policies and procedures.

Medical /Physician Assistants

Qualification: 

  • B. Sc. Physician Assistant Studies or its equivalent

 

Pharmacists

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Evaluating prescriptions for appropriate dosages and treatment protocols
  • Dispensing of medication for in-patients and out-patients (retail)
  • Preparing and processing (billing) of in-patient and out-patient prescriptions
  • Managing stock purchases to maintain stock cover days. Maintain adequate stock levels on designated shelves and placing orders when required
  • Liaising with doctors and nursing with any product queries
  • Handling of complaints from patients and staff
  • Training and supervision Pharmacist Assistants as assigned
  • Processing of medical waste for disposal
  • Ensure daily temperature checks are done on cold storage facilities
  • Receiving and unpacking of stock, packing of shelves. Reconciliation of purchase orders when required
  • Maintaining monthly financial targets as set out by management
  • Stock take and investigation of variances

Pharmacist Technicians / Medicine Counter Assistants

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret physician’s medication orders
  • Prepare and package chemotherapy medications and other medications requiring special handling in accordance with safety measures
  • Aid in filling, processing, and dispensing medications
  • Re-package and label medications
  • Adhere to safety practices in order to ensure quality care for patients
  • Help maintain the drug inventory through inventory control practices
  • Provide customer service by answering phone calls in a prompt and courteous manner
  • Triage requests and prioritize them
  • Check for expiration dates on medications on a regular basis

Qualification: 

  • HND Dispensing/Certificate in Medicine Dispensing

Laboratory Technicians

(Medical Laboratory Scientists/Medical Laboratory Technicians/ Medical Laboratory Assistants)

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Perform technical laboratory functions including chemistry, haematology, urinalysis and immunology.
  • Report test results following clinic protocols alerting providers and/or nurses about abnormal results.
  • Ensure quality control in collecting specimens, ensure appropriate sampling and maintain accurate record keeping.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies. Set up, maintain, calibrate, clean, and test sterility of medical laboratory equipment.
  • Comply with all laboratory policies and Health and Safety regulations related to safety, cleanliness and infection control.
  • Serve as a back-up to the Laboratory Manager as needed.
  • Maintain patient, team member and employer confidentiality. Comply with all department and Hospital regulations.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
 

Qualification: 

  • B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technician/Certificate in Medical Laboratory/ Diploma in Medical Laboratory
