A state owned enterprise seeks to invite applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the above-mentioned vacancy in its Safety Regulation Department.
JOB FUNCTION:
Under the supervision of the Manager of Air Navigation Services (ANS) Inspectorate, the AEROMET Inspector shall ensure compliance with Directives (GCADs) on Meteorology, ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs), including Aeronautical Meteorology policies and procedures for the provision of Air Navigation Services.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Responsible for performing Safety Oversight function of Aeronautical Meteorology Service providers (AMSP).
- Ensure the compliance of CAR relating to Aeronautical Meteorology, Aeronautical Meteorology relevant manuals, documents, regulations, directives.
- Ensure maintenance and improvement of safety level of Aeronautical Meteorology service providers.

- Carry out surveillance inspections of main watch offices (MWO). Aerodrome Meteorological offices, Aerodrome Meteorological stations and identify all non-conformities (deficiencies) in provision of aeronautical meteorology facilities and
- Keep track of all non-conformities (deficiencies) identified during surveillance inspection till these are removed.
- Interact with AMSP at appropriate level for improving processes and procedures being followed so that the compliance of facilities and services to CCA. MET, CAR and ICAO. SARPs is improved and so is the likelihood of its conforming to these.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Applicants must:
- University degree or successful completion of a recognized course forAeronautical Meteorology Forecaster (WMO Class I or Class II)
- A minimum of 10 years practical experience in the provision of Meteorological services to aviation, including experience in the preparation of aeronautical reports and forecasts (METAR, TAF, SIGMET), good knowledge of the numerical and statistical methods for weather forecasting, interpretation of the information from meteorological satellites, and tropical meteorology, preferably with government and or international organization.
- Good working knowledge of relevant aeronautical telecommunications, ATS procedures and the operations, products of the World Area Forecast System. In depth knowledge of ICAO SARPs, guidance material and regional procedures related to the provision of meteorological services to International air navigation.
- Expenence at a senior level in the organization, administration and operation of national meteorological authority and/or service provider, knowledge of regulation based on ICAO requirements, conversant with sitting, maintenance and calibration of meteorological instrumentation.
- Sound knowledge of all relevant ICAO and WMO technical documents including the convention on International Civil Aviation and concerned annexes and other related ICAO documentation and procedural requirements, especially ICAO SARPs contained in Annexes 3 and 11 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, PANS-ATM (Doc 4444), Quality Management System
- Computer literate
- Fluency in English language, including proven ability to write clear and concise reports
- Initiative, tact, sound judgment and the ability to foster and maintain harmonious working relationships in a team of Aviation experts.
