Golder is seeking to bring on board a Junior Consultant (social scientist) into its Ghana operation. The successful candidates will be required to work across either the environmental and social service areas within the group. They will be expected to be available and medically fit to travel to site, work in a team environment and apply a high degree of problem-solving in execution of their duties.

The positions will be based in Accra, Ghana and will be a permanent position.

Responsibilities of the role will include:

  • This is an entry level consulting role in Golder’s environmental team which includes ESIA/permitting, biodiversity, air and noise, social, stakeholder engagement, GIS, compliance auditing and mine closure specialists. We expect our staff to have a broad base of experience, to be able to work in a multi-disciplinary environment and be able to solve problems practically and proactively at a project level while working in a team environment.

  • As a junior consultant, the appointed candidate will work under close supervision of their line manager as they are mentored, exposed to a broad range of projects and grow in their careers. You will be expected to:

      • Assist in the execution of a variety of environmental and/or social projects.  This will entail going to site from time to time, undertaking a variety of field assignments and being involved in consultations with landowners or project stakeholders.

      • You will be expected to contribute to the successful delivery of projects through gathering and interpretation of field data, delivery of written reports and to assist in aspects of project management and administration.

      • You will work closely with, and deliver to, a mentor who will be your line manager and who will be responsible for guiding your development as a junior social scientist in the consulting field.

The successful candidate will have a background in:

The suitable candidate will have a postgraduate degree in environmental or social studies. Preferred qualifications and skillsets include:

  • Master’s degree in environmental or social sciences (preferably research-based) or
  • Honours degree in environmental or social sciences; and

Capability in the use of MS Office suite of software.

Core Competencies:

  • A Ghanaian National, or holder of a valid transferable work permit will be an advantage.
  • Well-developed communication skills, including the ability to write well, and
  • Multi-lingual skills will be an advantage, particularly French.

We are looking for a dynamic young professional who displays a high attention to detail and who can practically and pragmatically solve problems. We expect the social scientist to write well and to be able to integrate the work of others in an appropriate manner. You will have good interpersonal skills and be able to communicate clearly to different levels of stakeholders. You will be self-motivated, keen to learn, willing to travel (including abroad) and able to work in a team environment. You will be able to juggle multiple tasks and responsibilities, be organized and able to prioritize.
