Job Summary

The Credit and Recovery Officer is responsible for facilitating credit for clients by assessing creditworthiness, processing relevant documentation, and recovering assets in the event of loan default. The role balances risk management with customer relations, ensuring that credit sales align with organizational policies while minimizing non-performing assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct physical visitation to client’s home and place of business to verify residential and operational status.
  • Evaluate client creditworthiness by analyzing financial statements, bank statements, and cash flow projections.
  • Assess risks associated with each credit application, including industry risk, collateral quality, and repayment history.
  • Prepare concise credit evaluation reports for management’s decision-making.
  • Process all credit sales paperwork, including loan agreements, promissory notes, and collateral documentation.
  • Ensure all credit approvals conform to the organization’s risk management policies.
  • Maintain updated and accurate records of the entire credit sales portfolio (loan amounts, repayment schedules, defaults).
  • Monitor day-to-day credit sales accounts in default, working closely with the marketer and Credit Head to identify early warning signs.
  • Set up realistic payment plans for clients in the event of default, negotiating terms that protect company interests while accommodating genuine hardship.
  • Monitor progress of existing payment plans and escalate repeated violations promptly.
  • Initiate recovery actions on delinquent accounts, including repossession of trucks and heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Monitor GPS systems daily to assess functionality, track vehicle location, and prevent asset loss.
  • Coordinate with legal officers and bailiffs for repossession when voluntary recovery fails.
  • Provide weekly recovery status reports to management.
  • Liaise with the sales and marketing team to ensure alignment between credit terms and client promises.

Required Skills or Experience

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum Education of HND or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Banking, Economics, or Business Administration.
  • Proven working experience in credit analysis, loan recovery, or microfinance. Experience in asset financing (vehicles, trucks, equipment) is highly preferred.
  • Sound understanding of credit and recovery procedures, including repossession laws in Ghana (e.g., Borrowers and Lenders Act, 2020 – Act 1052).
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel frequently. Must be resident in or willing to relocate to Tema.
