Project Brief:

The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has applied to the C40 Cities Finance Facility (CFF) for support in structuring and preparing the “Integrated Waste Bio-Digestion and Recycling Project.” The project aims to divert at least 80% of municipal solid waste from landfills through recovery and recycling, by establishing a biodigester processing around 100 tonnes of organic waste per day, a material recovery facility at the Sofokrom landfill site, and a city-wide three-bin waste separation system for households and businesses.

The project’s overarching objectives are to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the waste sector, prevent drain blockages and flooding, reduce plastics
leakage into the ocean, and improve community health. It is also expected to create green and safe jobs, particularly for informal waste workers and women, while generating economic opportunities and promoting equitable participation in the waste sector.

Scope of Role

The Senior Project Advisor (SPA) will work in the global project C40 Cities Finance Facility (CFF) as Technical Advisor to the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA). S/he will work in close coordination with the global CFF team and liaise with GIZ and C40 programmes in Ghana.
