Established in 2006, MSI Reproductive Choices, Ghana is an affiliate of MSI Reproductive Choices and is one of the largest specialized Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) organisations in Ghana. MSI Reproductive Choices Ghana complements the Ministry of Health and Child Care in the provision of quality and affordable general health and SRH services in all regions of Ghana.

About the Role

The Director of Finance is a senior leader and key member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), responsible for ensuring strong financial stewardship, sustainability, and compliance across MSIG operations. The role provides strategic financial leadership, oversees donor and commercial finance, strengthens internal controls, and supports organizational growth and innovation.

As a trusted business partner to the Country Director and SMT, the Director of Finance will drive sound financial decision-making while leading and developing a high-performing finance team.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Financial Leadership

  • Provide strategic and functional financial leadership as a member of the SMT.
  • Lead financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting aligned with MSIG’s strategic objectives.
  • Provide high-quality financial analysis to support strategic planning, new initiatives, service expansion, and sustainability decisions.
  • Advise SMT on financial strategy, investment decisions, risk management, and efficiency improvements.
  • Support commercial and social marketing growth through pricing analysis, ROI assessments, and cost optimization.

Financial Management and Control

  • Oversee all accounting, reporting, and financial control systems in line with MSI Global Partnership policies, IFRS, and Ghanaian statutory requirements.
  • Ensure effective working capital management, including cash flow forecasting, investments, debtors, creditors, and donor advances.
  • Maintain strong internal controls, including anti-fraud, bribery prevention, and asset safeguarding systems.
  • Ensure timely and accurate tax filings, payroll obligations, pensions, insurance, and statutory compliance.

Donor and External Reporting

  • Lead donor budget development, financial reporting, and grant compliance.
  • Coordinate financial reporting and briefings with donors, MSI, and government entities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate monthly management accounts and group reporting.
  • Coordinate statutory accounts for preparation and annual audits in line with reporting timetables.
  • Liaise effectively with internal and external auditors.

Procurement and Operations Oversight

  • Provide strategic oversight of procurement, supply chain, and stock management functions.
  • Ensure procurement planning and purchasing comply with MSI policies and donor regulations.
  • Oversee supplier payment processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Support optimization of storage facilities and inventory management systems.

Leadership and Capacity Building

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, strengthening technical capacity and professional growth.
  • Conduct performance appraisals, set objectives, and review departmental structures to ensure effectiveness.
  • Build financial literacy across the organization through training and ongoing support to budget holders and project managers.

Required Skills or Experience

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; master's degree preferred.
  • ICAG, ACCA, or equivalent international accounting qualification is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ progressive finance experience, including at least 4 years at senior management level.
  • Proven experience managing donor-funded projects in NGO and commercial environments.
  • Prior experience with an audit or consulting firm (Big 4 or equivalent) is highly desirable.

Skills and Attributes

  • Strong knowledge of IFRS, grant management, and financial systems.
  • Proficiency in SUN Accounting and advanced Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • High integrity, resilience, and commitment to MSIG’s mission.
  • Must be pro-choice.
