BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE
BRAC International is a leading non-profit organisation with a mission to empower people and communities facing poverty, illiteracy, disease, and social injustice. Founded in 1972 by Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, BRAC is the world's largest non-governmental development organisation and operates in 15 countries across Asia and Africa today. BRAC designs proven, scalable solutions that equip people with the support and confidence they need to achieve their potential. BRAC's institutional expertise across programs, including health, agriculture, microfinance, education, and youth empowerment, is reaching over 100 million people in the Global South.
About the AIM Programme
The Mastercard Foundation Accelerating Impact for Young Women in Partnership with BRAC (AIM) program is an initiative designed to equip 2 million adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) with age-appropriate entrepreneurship, employability, and life skills training, as well as the tools to start and scale their businesses. AIM applies BRAC's globally recognised evidence-based approach to help individuals improve their lives and livelihoods.
The program utilises BRAC's proven models, incorporating microfinance, youth empowerment, agriculture, and skills development to enhance lives and livelihoods. The “best-of-BRAC” approach, drawn from the earlier stated programmatic models shown to achieve positive impact through rigorous research, is scalable and cost-effective. The overarching goal of the recently redesigned AIM partnership is to improve the quality of life for 2 million AGYW (aged 12 to 35) across seven African countries (Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, and Rwanda) by December 2033.
