Role Overview

The Communications Officer will play a vital role in capturing and sharing the stories and impacts of our work in the field. Working closely with the field team, the Communications Officer will create high-quality content, including photos, videos, and written narratives, to highlight our organization’s activities, achievements, and the lives we are transforming. This role will ensure timely submission of content for publishing across various platforms.

Your Role Functions:

  • Capture high-quality photographs and videos during field visits, showcasing the organization's impact and activities.
  • Collect quotes and personal stories from beneficiaries, partners, and stakeholders to create compelling narratives.
  • Manage the organization’s social media platforms and ensure regular, professional updates.
  • Organize and label all media files systematically for easy retrieval.
  • Submit all content (photos, videos, and written pieces) to the Communication Head on a timely basis.
  • Work closely with the field team to understand ongoing activities and ensure coverage of key events and milestones.
  • Collaborate with field staff to identify impactful stories and best practices to share with external audiences.
  • Maintain a weekly report on field activities covered and content submitted.
  • Highlight emerging opportunities for storytelling and areas needing coverage.
  • Respect the dignity and privacy of individuals while capturing and sharing their stories.
  • Perform any other duties reasonably associated with the role as assigned by management

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in communications, Media Studies, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in social media management is highly valued.
  • Experience in photography, videography, and content writing, especially in rural or field settings.
  • Proficiency in using cameras, smartphones, and editing software (basic photo and video editing skills).
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills.
  • Ability to travel extensively to field sites and work in rural areas.
  • A proactive and creative approach to content creation.
  • Experience working with NGOs or donor-funded projects is an advantage.

  • Passion for telling impactful stories.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Strong writing and editing skills in simple, clear English
  • Basic graphic design and photo/video editing skills (Canva, Adobe, or similar)
  • Good understanding of social media platforms
