Key Responsibilities

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) System Management

  • Design and maintain a robust MEAL system to track project outputs, outcomes, and impacts in line with donor and organizational requirements.
  • Support the development and review of project logical frameworks, indicators, and results measurement tools.
  • Lead the development of M&E plans, including data collection tools, protocols, and reporting templates.
  • Support external evaluations, donor reviews, and audits through timely provision of data and documentation.
  • Ensure alignment of M&E systems with CIFOR-ICRAF and WVG standards and frameworks.
  • Conduct monitoring visits to project activities to assess progress against targets and to provide coaching and direction to activities in areas where improvements are needed.
  • Develop and maintain databases to store and manage project data securely and efficiently.

Data Collection, Analysis and Reporting

  • Coordinate routine data collection in collaboration with field officers and implementing partners.
  • Conduct data verification and validation to ensure accuracy, reliability, and consistency.
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to assess progress against targets and inform program decisions.
  • Prepare and submit high-quality reports for project management, donors, and stakeholders.
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate reports for project management, donors and stakeholders.
  • Generate evidence-based insights and success/impact stories for reporting, learning, and visibility purposes.

Learning, Reflection, and Adaptive Management

  • Facilitate quarterly learning and reflection sessions with project teams, partners, and communities.
  • Document lessons learned, best practices, and case studies for internal learning and external dissemination.
  • Support the integration of feedback mechanisms into project implementation to inform adaptive management.
  • Coordinate outcome harvesting or other learning methodologies as required.

Capacity Building and Technical Support to Staff & Partners

  • Provide training and technical support to field staff, implementing partners, and community structures on M&E tools, methods, and systems.
  • Build capacity in participatory monitoring and evaluation techniques to promote local ownership of the M&E process.
  • Guide staff in the use of digital data collection and analysis tools.

Stakeholder Engagement & Resource Acquisition

  • Collaborate closely with the Project Manager and technical teams to align M&E activities with program goals.
  • Represent the project in M&E-related technical working groups, learning networks, and stakeholder forums.
  • Support visibility efforts by contributing to communication materials through evidence and data-driven content.
  • Identify problems and opportunities within project locations and formulate them into concepts and proposal for project scale up
  • Participate in concept notes/proposals development sessions for resource acquisition especially livelihood interventions
  • Generate evidence from our work in the field to attract donor funding

Essential Qualifications:

Education/knowledge/technical skills and experience

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Monitoring and Evaluation, Statistics, Agricultural Economics, Development Studies, Natural Resource Management, Agroforestry, Forestry, Climate Change, Environmental Science or a related field.
  • A relevant postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
  • At least 3 years of progressive experience in monitoring, evaluation, and learning, preferably in agriculture, natural resource management, or environmental restoration projects.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing M&E systems, including tools, indicators, and data management platforms.
  • Experience working with international NGOs, research institutions, or donor-funded projects is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis, and reporting.

Preferred/desirable Skills And Experience

  • Proficiency in M&E tools and software (e.g., Excel, SPSS, STATA, R, KoboToolbox, ODK, Power BI).
  • Experience in the GIS and Remote Sensing Knowledge of logical frameworks, theory of change, and results-based monitoring approaches.
  • Ability to design and manage databases, manage large datasets, and ensure data quality.
  • Familiarity with participatory M&E approaches, outcome harvesting, and adaptive learning practices.
  • Strong report writing skills, with the ability to generate evidence-based reports and learning products.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to present complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience in capacity building, training, and coaching of field staff and partners.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams, communities, and stakeholders.
  • Goal-oriented, flexible and adaptive.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to the field is essential.
