The Role
Ed Emporia is an innovation company on a mission: Innovating Education for Impact. We are hiring an Operations Lead for The STEAM Hub—our premier innovation platform for STEAM product retail. You will bridge the gap between high-growth retail strategy and technical mentorship, ensuring our platform empowers the next generation of African makers.
Success in this Role
Success in this role means managing a high-efficiency retail platform where logistics are seamless, clients receive world-class service, and every interaction creates a measurable learning impact for both our community and our company.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Operational Excellence
- Oversee daily opening/closing procedures and financial reporting.
- Manage high-SKU inventory, ensuring precision in stock levels for both walk-in customers and e-commerce fulfilment via www.thesteamhub.com.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and inspiring "Maker" environment.

2. Team Leadership
- Foster a culture of continuous learning—ensuring staff can explain complex products (like microcontrollers or modular robotics) to beginners.
3. Sales & Community Growth
- Develop local partnerships with schools, libraries, and homeschooling collectives.
- Curate and oversee weekend workshops and product demonstrations.
- Analyse sales trends to suggest new "hot" STEM products for procurement.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience: 1+ years in Retail Management. Experience in a STEM field is a significant advantage.
- Education: A degree or background in a STEM field (Science, Engineering, IT) or Education is preferred but not required if equivalent technical experience exists.
- Technical Aptitude: Comfortable with POS systems, E-commerce platforms, and a basic "hands-on" understanding of DIY tech (e.g., 3D printing, basic circuitry).
- Leadership: Ability to manage a team and handle customer escalations with grace.
- Communication: Ability to translate "tech-speak" into "kid-speak" and "parent-speak."
