About the Role
GDS Africa is seeking a highly skilled Senior Network Engineer to design, implement, and optimize enterprise-grade networking and security solutions. This role requires deep technical expertise, hands-on experience, and the ability to lead complex deployments across diverse environments. The ideal candidate will ensure robust, secure, and scalable infrastructure that meets business and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Network Design & Implementation
- Architect, deploy, and maintain advanced network infrastructures including:
- VLANs, routing protocols, Layer 2/3 switching
- Firewalls, load balancers, and WAN optimization
- Configure and integrate security solutions such as NGFW, WAF, VPN, and endpoint security.
- Perform system upgrades, migrations, and consolidations with minimal downtime.
- Apply vendor best practices and industry standards for high availability and security.

Optimization & Troubleshooting
- Monitor network performance and implement proactive measures to ensure reliability.
- Diagnose and resolve complex network issues across multi-vendor environments.
- Conduct capacity planning and performance tuning for enterprise networks.
Collaboration & Documentation
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to align network solutions with business objectives.
- Prepare detailed implementation plans, network diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership during projects.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in enterprise networking and security.
- Expertise in:
- Cisco, Juniper, or Huawei networking platforms
- Firewall technologies (Fortinet, Palo Alto, Check Point)
- VPN, WAF, and endpoint security solutions
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, and SD-WAN.
- Familiarity with virtualization and cloud networking (VMware NSX, Azure, AWS).
- Relevant certifications (CCNP, JNCIP, NSE, or equivalent) preferred.
