African Diaspora Resource Centre (ADRC) provides transitional support services to members of the African diaspora seeking to visit, reintegrate, and relocate to Ghana. Through programs such as cultural immersion, relocation assistance, and community-building, ADRC helps newcomers successfully transition into Ghanaian society.

Role Description

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Twi Teacher & Reintegration Specialist to support ADRC’s mission of helping newcomers adjust to life in Ghana. This hybrid role combines teaching the Twi language with guiding new expats and diaspora returnees through cultural orientation, reintegration, relocation support, and community engagement.

The ideal candidate will be skilled in both education and advisory services, ensuring that clients gain practical knowledge of the language, culture, and systems that shape daily life in Ghana.

Key Responsibilities

Twi Language Instruction

  • Plan and deliver structured Twi lessons tailored to English-speaking learners.
  • Develop interactive and engaging teaching materials to enhance learning.
  • Provide individualized support based on learners’ language proficiency levels.
  • Incorporate multimedia tools and real-life scenarios to strengthen language acquisition.
  • Assess student progress, provide constructive feedback, and adapt lessons as needed.

Cultural Orientation

  • Lead cultural orientation sessions covering Ghanaian customs, values, traditions, and daily life practices.
  • Educate newcomers on social etiquette, communication norms, and community integration.
  • Facilitate workshops that bridge cultural understanding between expats/returnees and local communities.

Reintegration & Relocation Support

  • Provide consultations to newcomers on settling in Ghana, including housing, utilities, banking, healthcare, and transportation.
  • Make tailored recommendations for services and strategies to ease relocation and adjustment.
  • Assist in troubleshooting reintegration challenges by offering practical solutions and referrals.
  • Work collaboratively with ADRC staff to connect clients to resources, partners, and community support systems.

Community Engagement & Events

  • Participate in planning and hosting events for diaspora and expats in Ghana, including meet-ups, cultural nights, and educational programs.
  • Support the design and delivery of events that foster networking, cultural immersion, and a sense of belonging.
  • Act as a cultural resource and representative of ADRC during community programs.

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, consultations, and client needs.
  • Contribute to ADRC’s resource materials for diaspora returnees.
  • Represent ADRC in a professional manner when interacting with clients, community members, and partner organizations.

Qualifications

  • Fluency in Twi and strong command of English (oral and written).
  • Proven experience teaching Twi to non-native or English-speaking learners.
  • Strong lesson planning and instructional design skills.
  • Background in Education, Linguistics, Literature, or related field (Bachelor’s degree preferred).
  • Experience in cross-cultural training, orientation, or advisory services is an advantage.
  • Event planning, facilitation, or community engagement experience is highly desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to the diverse needs of clients.

Work Schedule

  • Full-time position with flexible scheduling to accommodate classes, consultations, orientations, and events.
  • Evening or weekend sessions may be required based on client needs.
