The Savannah Fruits Company (SFC) is seeking the services of a full time Nut Field Officer to join the operations team in Yapei, Ghana. The ideal candidate will be joining a growing team and report to the Operations Manager.

ABOUT SAVANNAH FRUITS CO. LTD (SFC)

The Savannah Fruits Company manufactures and trades natural raw materials for the cosmetic and food industries from Ghana. Our philosophy is to work with small holders and small-scale producers organized in cooperatives in order to keep value added in communities. Most of our products are certified organic and fair trade. We mainly sell to manufacturers and distributors worldwide. We are growing fast which is good but also challenging in many ways.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Operations Related Responsibilities

  • Purchase good quality organic share nuts from SFC’s organic certified network
  • Monitor the collection and handling of organic products to ensure the required organic processes and procedures are followed
  • Keep track and report local market prices for shea nuts on a weekly basis
  • Carry out quality checks during nut buying for delivery of high-quality products by the groups
  • Facilitate and train SFC groups on organic principles and quality issues pertaining to organic shea nut collection
  • Bag, weigh and label all organic shea nuts properly
  • Maintain good relations with producer groups and partners
  • Complete and file all documentation appropriately
  • Store and transport organic shea nut to processing centers properly without contamination
  • Send regular and accurate operations reports on time as required

Certification Related Responsibilities

Community Engagement and Shea Nut Sourcing

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with community leaders and women’s groups.
  • Identify and train local suppliers for shea nuts to ensure quality and sustainability.
  • Monitor and document shea nut collection and purchase activities, ensuring traceability.

Training and Capacity Building

1. Conduct training sessions for women in the communities on:

  • Organic collection practices.
  • Fair for Life (FFL) social and ethical standards.
  • ISO22716 (Good Manufacturing Practices) requirements for shea butter production.

2. Provide ongoing technical support to ensure adherence to certification guidelines.

3. Certification Compliance

  • Ensure communities comply with Organic, Fair for Life, and ISO22716 standards.
  • Conduct regular assessments of collection and processing sites for compliance.
  • Prepare reports and documentation to support certification audits.

4. Monitoring and Reporting

  • Track and report on the quality, quantity, and traceability of shea nuts collected.
  • Identify certification related challenges in the field and propose solutions to the Certification Manager.
  • Submit reports on training activities, community engagement, and certification compliance.

5. Advocacy and Awareness

  • Promote the benefits of certification to community members.
  • Advocate for gender equity and economic empowerment for women in the shea supply chain.

REQUIREMENTS & DESIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience
  • Academic qualification: Bachelor's and NSS completed.

This position is full-time and is based in Yapei, Ghana. The salary is competitive with the exact salary depending on experience. We also offer benefits such as a communications stipend, SSNIT & Health Insurance and paid leave after a probation period of 6 months.
