Underground General Foreman: Mechanical - Asante Gold Corporation

About This Role

To provide leadership and formulate strategies that ensures the continuous growth of the Mobile Maintenance Section to maximize operational efficiencies, safety, effective cost management and profitability that meet the organization’s overall objective.

To ensure the efficient supervision and control of Underground Mobile Maintenance Team by allocating and managing resources (people and equipment) to attain production.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement effective mobile maintenance standards and procedures
• Perform periodical and scheduled inspection programs to maintain the Company’s Underground assets and infrastructure according to established mine maintenance and engineering standards.
• Develop work procedures, Job Safety Analysis (JSA’s), systems and standards that will comply with occupational health and workplace standards to meet the Company and national guidelines, policies, and legislation
• Efficiently perform preventive, breakdown, project, refurbishment repairs and assign maintenance staff according to work requirements and priorities.
• Execute the planned jobs according to priorities and the availability of equipment in accordance with CGML work management practices.
• Work within strict quality standards and tolerance measure to support the relevant functions in terms of quality assurance and control
• Plan and organize maintenance jobs safely and within a budget.
• Supervise mobile maintenance and repair works directly or through supervisors, communicate correct procedures and assign duties as required
• Coordinate with the planning section to set / review required maintenance / repair plans, maintenance schedules and strategies.
• Respond to breakdown calls in a timely and safe manner and perform Root Cause Analysis of failures/ breakdowns.
• Open, review and close Work Orders, prepare Purchase Requisitions and estimates.
• Assist in the development of equipment parts lists, consumable lists, stock levels of parts and consumables.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, parts books and service manuals (including specifications) for Company Equipment and plan jobs.
• Act as a Change Agent and Project Sponsor for key initiatives; models organizational values, sets the cultural tone, and prioritizes business goals.
• Supervise a team of Underground Maintenance Technicians, Welders, Tire Technicians, Tools Storemen, Bit Sharpeners and Auto Electricians.
• Ensure relevant Safety, Mining and other statutory Codes and Regulations remain in full compliance at every work place.
• Practice and promote Company environmental, health, safety and operational policies and procedures and actively participate in the Company’s Continuous Improvement Programme.
• Ensure Consultants & Contractors are performing according to contractual obligations with the Company.
• Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Manager.

Education, Work Experience & Key Competencies

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field of study from a recognized institution.
• Certificate of competency as an Engineering Supervisor or higher from the Inspectorate Division of the Minerals Commission (IDMC).
• Trained and certified ‘millwright’ with Mechanical as primary training and Electrical as a must second training.
• Minimum of ten (10) years hands on experience in a Mobile Maintenance field with five (5) years in a Supervisory role or above.
• Ability to prepare estimates, tender document specifications for any mechanical works and analyze offers to recommend the best
• Excellent understanding of contract maintenance, vendor, and contractor warranties.
• Possess knowledge of all phases of mobile equipment including critical components and change-out hours.
• Must have a practical working knowledge to identify, address and resolve technical and complex maintenance issues and problems.
• Must be customer focused, results oriented, accountable and delivery-focused
• Must be a computer literate - MS Office Suite.
• Additional specialized training or education in business and project management, operations management, safety and risk assessment or continuous improvement.
• Budgeting, planning and scheduling experience required as well as financial (cost) management.
• Must possess a valid Ghanaian Driver’s License with good and defensive driving skills.
