Job Summary:
Plan the RAN accesses and backhaul transmission network to provide for all the connectivity requirements to all sites locations/nodes/Enterprise clients to meet service requirements and ensure optimum performance of the transmission network at all times.

Job Role
Site surveys
- Undertake field visits to select suitable transmission sites
- Ensure selected sites have sufficient power and cooling to accommodate the transmission nodes.
Path profiling
- Perform antenna height calculation
- Perform Fresnel clearance analysis
Transmission Link Engineering
- Perform link parameter calculations/predictions.
- Perform interference analysis to ensure high spectrum efficiency.
- Perform link and power budget
Network Design
- Plan and design the passive optical network
- Plan and design the active optical network, including DWDM.
- Plan distribution of lambda to ensure availability on all routes all the time.
Network Optimization
- Proactively resolving network performance and link availability issues
- Create adequate redundancy to improve on network uptime.
- Troubleshoot network congestion and eliminate them
Fixed Broadband
- Design and optimize OLT backhaul
- Upgrade the uplink capacity of OLTs to guarantee optimum experience on GPON
Documentation and Compliance
- Maintain the network database and equipment logs
- Ensure regulatory compliance.
- Ensure Transmission planning activities meet industry standards.

Education
- Minimum of a BSc. Electronic/Telecommunications Engineering
Experience
- A minimum of 3 years’ working experience in a telecoms environment.
- Experience in Transmission Planning
Knowledge
- Transmission Network Topology & Traffic engineering
- Transmission Link Capacity Planning & Transmission network quality management
- Proven experience in the Transmission Site selection and LOS survey.
- SDH/PDH/IP Network Planning Principles
- Strong understanding of the ITU standards and recommendations
- Documentation/Records keeping skills
- GSM network operations overview
- A good knowledge of technological trends in the transport sector of the telecommunications industry.
- Good knowledge in Optical Networks Technology (WDM, SDH etc.)
- Good knowledge in Connect and or Path loss Planning tools
- Ability to work with Topographical and Digital maps
- Excellent knowledge of Radio Propagation Principles
- Demonstrate Planning Abilities relating to Capacity enhancements.
- Good interference calculations and elimination skills
- A good understanding of IP principles
- Basic to medium knowledge of the use of analytics tools like PowerBI, Tableau, etc.
