The Opportunity:

As a Senior Data Engineer at Kofa, you’ll be the chief architect of our data ecosystem. Your expertise will design and implement the robust pipelines and efficient storage systems that transform our flood of raw data into a well-organized reservoir of actionable insights, driving strategic decisions and operational excellence.

What You’ll Do:

• Architect and implement scalable, high-performance data pipelines to ingest, process, and store data from our rapidly growing network of smart batteries and swap stations 

• Lead the development of sophisticated ETL processes to clean, transform, and load data from various sources into our data warehouse 

• Design and oversee the implementation of our data lake architecture, ensuring efficient storage, easy accessibility, and scalability for large-scale datasets

• Spearhead the implementation of real-time data streaming solutions to enable instant analytics and decision-making 

• Collaborate closely with data scientists to create efficient data models that support advanced analytics and machine learning projects 

• Optimize database performance and query efficiency to handle millions of daily transactions, ensuring seamless scalability 

• Develop and implement robust data validation and quality assurance processes to maintain data integrity across all systems 

• Create comprehensive data documentation and metadata management systems to support organization-wide data literacy 

• Lead initiatives on data security and compliance measures to protect sensitive information and ensure regulatory adherence

• Mentor junior data engineers and provide technical leadership to the data team 

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand complex data needs and architect innovative solutions 

• Contribute to strategic decision-making on data infrastructure and technology stack evolution

What You’ll Need:

• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in data engineering, with a track record of leading complex projects 

• A degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred 

• Expert-level proficiency in Python, Java, or Scala, with a portfolio of significant data engineering projects 

• Extensive experience with big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, or similar) in production environments 

• Advanced knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases, with experience in performance tuning and optimization 

• Strong expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure) for large-scale data processing 

• Deep understanding of data warehousing concepts and technologies, with experience in designing and implementing data warehouses 

• Proven experience in data modeling and ETL design for complex, high-volume data systems 

• Comprehensive understanding of data security, privacy best practices, and relevant regulatory requirements 

• Experience leading teams or mentoring junior engineers in data engineering practices 

• Excellent problem-solving skills with a track record of optimizing complex data systems 

• Strong communication skills to collaborate with diverse teams and explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders 

• Passion for clean energy and sustainable development, with an understanding of the unique challenges in the African context 

• Bonus: Experience with IoT data systems, energy sector data management, or data engineering in emerging markets
